Shadows of the Collegium
Yesterday, I asked about what I should rename Sand & Steam now that it’s going to be the name of my production company. I got some really good suggestions, and I wanted to share them with you. Keep in mind that whatever the name of the setting is, it has to be subtitled at least three different ways to cover all of the systems that I’m going to use for the different parts of the setting. Here are the top contenders:
Steam & Shadows
Shadows & Steam
Shadows of Magic
Shadows of the Collegium
There was also a modest push for Raging Bear Penis, but I decided against that one.
As you might imagine from the title of this post, I’ve settled on a name to use for a working title, at least: Shadows of the Collegium. It’s evocative, it implies evil things about the Collegium (which is good), and basically everything that is going on in the setting is going on because of the machinations of the Masked Council who run the Collegium, so it fits. Also, it subtitles very well. That means that I can begin distinguishing between the various parts of the setting with greater ease. That gives me the following products that are in the hopper of stuff to work on in Shadows of the Collegium:
Shadows of the Collegium: The Undercity (Pathfinder)
Shadows of the Collegium: Tales of the Getters (Savage Worlds)
Shadows of the Collegium: Servants of the Masked Council (FATE)
I like the way that all three of those titles sound. Now, none of these things are set in stone, but I don’t like ambiguity, so I needed something upon which I could hang my design hat as I’m moving forward with these projects. Incidentally, the renaming of the campaign setting was discussed back in September by one Ryan Fucking Macklin from the Internet. I think I’ve mostly followed the guidelines he suggested.
